I know, I know, it seems like sort of a cop out to be blogging about my trip to Taiwan. I mean, I go back every year and it's technically like going to my second home. It's not really anything special, but c'mon! Cut me some slack, I've gotta ease into this. Plus, I can just post lots of photos and this will be an easy post!
Just kidding.
It's a little different since I only went back for a month and a half this time as opposed the usual 3 months.
Anyway, so this is the book that amused me for the majority of my flight time:
It's all three installments of Murakami's 1Q84 all in one handy extrememly heavy, thick hardback volume! Man, it was fun transitting with this baby.
Just as a side note: It took me aaaaaages to finish this book and my mind was filled with general confusion when I'd finished it. It was extremely reviting though and I enjoyed it. But still. ???????????????????????? !!
So, I'm gonna re-read it soon lol.
Okay, so I wanted to refrain from posting selfcam photos, (I'll even spare you of the ones I took on the plane) but look at this adorable thing!
My face!!
lol jokes. I'm talking about the christmas tree cake pop! (or is it one word? cakepop?)
I know! It's like a lollipop!
BUT IT'S CAKE! OMFG.
yea, yea, I know it's not that exciting. But I don't think cakepops are that common in NZ!!
Are they?
If they are... can someone please tell me where I can get some??
I had a mini freakout when I saw them in Starbucks lol. But to be honest, it tasted average. But still.
Look at it! It's so cute!
One of my new goals is to learn and successfully make some cakepops.
And again, I'm sorry it's a selfcam photo but I didn't take any photos of the cakepop by itself...
Moving along...
A couple of days after I got back to Taiwan, we went down South to my grandparents' (dad's parents) house in Pingtung.
These red doors that lead into the tiny mosquito filled courtyard always bring forth feelings of nostalgia.
Plus, it really has a old fashioned rural feel, which I really like, despite being a city person. I'm always imagining my dad growing up here ^^ even though he didn't spend all of his childhood at this particular house, it's a nice point of reference. This house contains many precious memories of mine, for example: falling down a flight of stairs but emerging
completely unscathed, or being terrified of the bathroom because instead of having a cupboard under the stairs, a
bathroom was built there. It was small and dim and scary. But if I think about it, it's a rather clever use of space.
I love wandering around in this house cause it's so old and dusty and, I don't know, it just always makes me feel like it's worth exploring. I've never found anything all that interesting except for the time i found a briefcase of letters from my dad's first girlfriend lolol. (On that note, letters are
so romantic. I wish we stilll wrote letters nowadays). But this time, I almost cried when found a picture of me as a toddler under the pane of glass that covers my grandfather's old writing desk. I was always his favourite grandchild, even though I'm a girl and not even the firstborn. Haha, he and I used to be such good friends... sigh.
The point of our visit down south was actually to go to a wedding but I won't elaborate on that since I already blogged about it on my other blog. But one thing that kinda annoyed me was the stupid host of the wedding. She was so bad at her job. Also, they got like, the girl's mum's old boss to speak. wtffffff O_O what does he know?! just cause he's a principal of some school... and then they got another one of the parents' old bosses to speak. Just cause he was a general. zzzz... I feel like asian weddings are held for the sake of the parents, not the couple...
Oh during our trip down south we also went to visit some family friends in Kaosiung.
Thats a picture of the cafe we always go to whenever we visit. It's next to a river called "愛河" which is iliterally "love river" or "river of love". I actually have no idea why it's called that, but it's so romantic ><" haha especially if you check out the view:
There was this one couple standing in the light drizzle, huddled under an umbrella the guy was holding and whispering to each other. It was so cute omg like a scene out of a movie lol I wanted to take a photo of them but I didn't wanna be creepy >___<""
So it was a pretty short trip.. we didn't do much else.. here's a photo i took just before we left my grandparent's house.
the line of the shadow is the line between old and new, dark and light.
ohh kay that about wraps up my trip down south I shall update with the next part of my Taiwan trip soon... although, it's not very interesting, mostly I just ate and shopped and took pictures of pretty lights lol
Was this acceptable for a first post?? ><" -is anxious-
